Preserving capital, creating value, and shaping impact—across generations of Bahraini leadership.
Noorwood was founded as a union between two of Bahrain’s most respected families—the Al Alawi and the Al Mudifa—each with a long history of shaping the Kingdom’s economic and social landscape. Together, these legacies form the foundation of Noorwood’s purpose as a family office: to preserve wealth, values, and vision across generations.
The Al Alawi family has played a key role in Bahrain’s development across commerce, leadership, and community affairs. Among its most prominent figures is Sayed Mahmood Al Alawi, a widely respected businessman and public figure who contributed to national economic growth and civic leadership. His values of discipline, foresight, and integrity continue to shape Noorwood’s philosophy.
The late Hassan bin Ali Al Mudifa, great-grandfather of the founding family, was one of the Gulf’s most prominent pearl merchants and a pioneering figure in Bahrain’s commercial development in the early 20th century. He established a legacy of excellence, expanding from natural pearl and agricultural trade into real estate and broader investments. His reputation for trust, craftsmanship, and business acumen set the standard for generations that followed.
Sayed Mahmood Ahmad Al Alawi was one of Bahrain’s most distinguished economic minds and public servants. As a trusted advisor to the late Prime Minister His Royal Highness Shaikh Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa, he played a pivotal role in shaping Bahrain’s modern economic landscape. Their close collaboration began in the mid-1960s and included several landmark initiatives such as conducting the 1965 census and establishing Bahrain’s first national currency. As a founding member of the Bahrain Monetary Council, Al Alawi’s guidance was instrumental in laying the financial foundations of the state. From his early days in the Government’s Accounting Department to his appointment as Minister of Finance and National Economy in Bahrain’s first government, his leadership spanned critical periods including the global economic crisis, World War II, and the nation’s journey to independence. Until his passing in 1994, he continued to serve as Financial Adviser to the Prime Minister, leaving behind a legacy marked by dedication, patriotism, and visionary economic stewardship.
